Our
very own Joe Higdon participated in the MS 150 for the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society September 14-15. Joe is an avid bicycle
rider and has been a member of the Team Katie for the past six years.
Team Katie began when Joe’s son Justin experienced the disease through
his mother-in-law, Katie. Justin became passionate for the cause after
seeing what the disease can do to families who have a loved one with the
illness. Team Katie has grown from three people six years ago to 15
people today.
The
Bike-A-Thon is divided up into three routes depending on skill level.
Riders in the two day event can choose from: 1. The Centennial
Route-100 miles each day-Advanced Riders. 2. Regular Route-75 miles
each day-mid level rider, and 3. Short Route- 36 miles each
day-Beginner riders. The first ten miles is the same route for
everyone. After that, the routes divide. Team Katie has five members
in the advanced level, five in the mid level, and five in the beginner
level. The Bike-A-Thon began at 7:00 am at Garmin in Olathe and ended
at 5:30 in Lawrence on day one. Day two began at 7 am in Lawrence and
ended at 11:45 in pouring rain at Garmin.
Team
Katie has hit the $20K mark in donations over their career, and Joe is
currently in the top 200 donor generators. He is very near moving into
the top 150 category and would like your help. Please support Joe by sending your donations to www.bike4kt.com and click on “Joe Higdon”, or just see Joe in the Volkswagen building.
